If you can't see as well as you used to and you can't figure out why, it's time to get your vision inspected. There are a couple of different vision problems that people deal with on a daily basis and never get treatment because they don't know that there is a serious problem. You could be dealing with computer vision syndrome, or you could have defective cataracts.
Computer Vision Syndrome
Computer vision syndrome is a problem that occurs when you spend hours in front of the computer and other electronics. It can cause tension headaches, eye dryness, soreness in the neck and shoulders, eye spasms, drowsiness and more.
If you think you have vision impairment and you have these other symptoms, you want to see an optometrist. The eye doctor can test your eyes to see if vision is a problem, and they can give you advice on reducing the symptoms of computer vision syndrome.
Printing out emails or documents instead of staring at the screen, using a glare protector on your computer monitor, and making phone calls instead of sending emails can help you give your eyes a break. Drops can also be prescribed to help lubricate your eyes.
Cataract Concerns
If you feel you are always having your prescriptions changed with your eye glasses or contacts and your eyes are blurred and you see spots, you could have a problem with your cataracts. This is dangerous, and you never know when your vision could be gone. If your night time vision is deteriorating and you are starting to have double vision, you have to get to the eye doctor right away.
Cataract problems can be corrected by changing your eyewear prescription, but cataract surgery is another solution to consider. This is where you will have the natural cataract lens in your eye removed and then a synthetic lens will be replaced. Some people are able to see clearly without glasses after this surgery.
If cataract surgery is needed or a possibility, you'll want to get a consultation from an ocular surgeon to see what your options are. You don't want to spend the rest of your life dealing with headaches and other annoyances related to having a vision problem, and the sooner you get it fixed, the sooner you'll get relief. Get your eyes checked out and get any prescriptions changed as necessary so you can see and be safe.
